PNP confers awards to Eastern Visayas police units

PALO, Leyte, June 17 (PNA) -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) has conferred the Silver Eagle Award to 23 police stations and granted the Performance Compliance Status (PGS) to 158 police offices and stations in Eastern Visayas.

The awarding is a manifestation that they have complied with the mandatory requirements for the element in the second stage of PGS.

The compliance evaluation process is composed of three sequential phases – the strategic readiness test, performance audit, and performance governance reporting.

“Through this, we access the overall performance not only of our national headquarters, but all units across the country based on the accomplishment of their target through implementation of their strategic initiatives,” said Chief Supt. Eduardo Serapio Garado, deputy director, directorate of plans and chairman of PNP PATROL Plan 2030.

Compliance assessment of police offices and stations are conducted by their respective advisory council composed of various members from civil society.

Garado added that the compliance assessment is part of the long term plan of the PNP, which will continue even under the new administration.

“This is part of the PNP transformation program. We can implement the program of the new president but general program of the PNP will continue,” said Garado.

“The new president may implement new policy or operational focus, but our strategy will remain because the PNP focuses on two areas - crime prevention and crime solution,” he added.

These achievements show in the latest crime statistics of the regional police showing the decrease of index crime volume by 43.6 percent from 3,552 index crime in previous year to only 2,032 this year.

Crime solution efficiency has increased by eight percent from 44.37 percent to 47.93 percent. Crime clearance efficiency also rose 52.84 percent to 56.95 percent.

“Eastern Visayas PNP was also successful in operation against wanted operation and prohibited activities such as illegal logging, illegal fishing, illegal drugs and illegal gambling, complemented with their partnership with their strategic partners like the local government,” Garado added.

The sustained police and local government partnership, justice department and other members of the society will help to continue gaining the trust of the community to law enforcement units, according to the police official. (PNA)
