PHP100-M sought for northwest Leyte flood control projects

ORMOC CITY, Leyte, June 9 (PNA) -- With the onset of the rainy season, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in northwest Leyte is seeking for the release of PHP100 million flood control projects.

The amount will be used to put up retaining walls on the primary tributaries of Calingatnan, Bacan and Palanas, all in neighboring Albuera town, said District Engineer Lino Francisco Gonzales.

At present, the DPWH 4th Leyte engineering district is building a PHP50 million dike on the bank of Pagsangaan River in Lilo-an, here in Ormoc.

It is also set to begin constructing a similar structure worth PHP10 million several kilometers upstream to protect a relocation site from floods.

Moreover, the district office received last December a late release of PHP8 million from the 2014 budget of DPWH for the protection of Pagsangaan Bridge. (PNA)
