Leyte schools urged to use alternative classrooms

TACLOBAN CITY, June 15 (PNA) –- Schools in Leyte province resorted to using alternative rooms for campuses with classroom shortage problems amid ongoing construction of school buildings.

DepEd Leyte schools division superintendent Ronilo Al Firmo said absence of new classrooms in some campuses did not stop them from opening the new academic year on Monday.

Some 196,444 kindergarten, elementary and high school students in Leyte trooped to campuses this week.

Of the total number of enrolees, 14,375 are senior high school, 78,471 are junior high school, and 103,598 are elementary and kindergarten.

“Contingency measures like the use of conference rooms, offices and laboratories have been considered while waiting for the completion of school building projects.

Most of the projects will be done within the next two months as assured by the Department of Public Works and Highways.

The DepEd Leyte office has deployed 904 new teachers all over the province this school year. (PNA)
