TACLOBAN
CITY, May 17 (PNA) -- The Department of Education (DepED) Leyte division is
optimistic of smooth opening of classes on June 13, as they step up
preparations for the full implementation of kindergarten and 12 years of basic
education (K to 12) program.
DepED Leyte
field office has launched their 30-day countdown for the schools opening on May
13.
Schools
division superintendent Ronilo Al Firmo said they have been regularly
coordinating with the Department of Public Works and Highways on the construction
of new school buildings.
“I am happy
to report that 98 of the 116 schools that will implement senior high school
program have already completed new school buildings. Majority of the remaining
buildings will be finished before the class opening as committed by the DPWH
and school officials,” Firmo told PNA.
He added
that amid delays in the construction of the additional school building, the
department has prepared a contingency plan.
Included in
the plan is the conversion of laboratories and libraries as temporary learning
rooms.
The
department is now on the process of screening 578 teachers that will handle
senior high school classes.
Teachers
started their training for senior high school on Monday for the core topics.
The K to 12
program covers kindergarten and 12 years of basic education - six years of
primary education, four years of junior high school, and two years of senior
high school to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills,
develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education,
middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship. (PNA)
