ORMOC CITY, Leyte, May 2 (PNA) -– A total of 80 applicants were hired on
the spot during the job fair at City Hall organized by the Department of Labor
and Employment (DOLE) in observance of the 114th Labor Day celebration on May
1. Of that number, 69 were hired by local companies and 11 for overseas
employment.
On the other hand, 69 are considered near hired for local employment.
The result did not meet DOLE’s target of 20 percent on-the-spot hiring among
the 583 registered applicants in the job fair, which was participated by 15
companies and five recruitment agencies offering employment abroad.
Ormoc is one of the two job fair sites organized by DOLE, the other one
held at Leyte Academic Center in Palo town which caters to jobseekers from east
coast Leyte as well as the provinces of Biliran and Samar island.
The one at Ormoc City Hall caters to jobseekers from Leyte west coast
and Southern Leyte.
On the same occasion at City Hall, DOLE launched the Job Search Kiosk, a
labor market portal housed in an automated teller machine-type stand-alone
equipment which provides employment-related information including local and
overseas job opportunities. It also provides employment facilitation like job
search and skills matching.
It further helps job seekers at no cost fast-track access to relevant
information on job openings and employers as well as hiring or upgrading
requirements through the programs of Technical Education and Skills Development
Authority and career guides of Bureau of Local Employment.
The Ormoc activity also featured a livelihood fair participated by seven
groups that displayed their products. Four of them came from Baybay City namely
