President Aquino campaigns anew for Mar-Leni tandem in Leyte

BAYBAY CITY, April 19 (PNA) – President Benigno S. Aquino III made a campaign pitch for the ruling party’s presidential and vice presidential candidates during his visit to Leyte province on Monday afternoon.

“For me the only tandem that has integrity and competence that will put the country above self is none other than the tandem of Mar Roxas and Leni Robredo,” the President told a huge crowd at the city gymnasium.

The administration’s gains could only be sustained if the right leaders are elected into office, he said, adding that "all the hard work we had will vanish if the country’s next leaders will implement crooked governance."

“So it’s up to you if we will continue and expand the good things we have started,” President Aquino said.

The President highlighted the gains of his administration from infrastructure, social services, health, education, peace initiatives and tourism that spur jobs in the countryside and his economic development.

He said only the team of Roxas and Robredo and Liberal Party senatorial slate will continue the Daang Matuwid he worked hard for the people.

In the inaugural drive of the national government road project, President Aquino was accompanied by Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson and Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mel Sarmiento.

The road was completed in December 2015 with a total length of 5.154 kilometers at a total cost of Php370 million.

“The road will decongest traffic and spur economic development in the area. Many investors like the Gaisano group of companies have expressed their interest to invest in the area. The downtown area is already congested and buzzing with activities and this diversion road is a relief,” said Baybay Mayor Carmen Cari.

The mayor also vowed to campaign hard for the Roxas-Robredo tandem because she believes that the team can deliver. (PNA)
