MAASIN CITY,
Southern Leyte, March 22 (PNA) -- The Department of Public Works and Highways
Southern Leyte District Engineering Office (DPWH-SLDEO) has deployed “Labkay
Alalay” teams in strategic areas to help travellers this Holy Week.
Heeding DPWH
Secretary Rogelio L. Singson’s directive, District Engineer Ma. Margarita Junia
has reactivated its motorist assistance program dubbed as “Lakbay Alalay” from
March 21-28.
“Lakbay
Alalay teams are composed of DPWH personnel and mechanics ready with equipment
and service vehicles will be placed in strategic locations along national roads
where there are influx of motorists,” Junia said.
The 15-men
skeletal force are deployed in six strategic areas along national roads –
Maasin City area; Divisoria Junction, Bontoc town; Junction Sogod (Maharlika
Highway), Sogod town; Junction Maharlika Concepcion, Sogod town; Junction
Concepcion, San Miguel, Sogod town; and Junction Himay-angan (Maharlika
Highway), Liloan town.
The team is
on duty round-the-clock through shifting. The DPWH-SLDEO earlier coordinated
with Land Transportation Office (LTO), Philippine National Police (PNP), local
government units (LGUs) and other concerned agencies in this undertaking.
On Feb. 29,
Singson has directed regional directors and district engineer to conduct
inspection and ensure all major routes are free from potholes, pavement
markings are reflectorized, and proper signages and warning signs are installed
within clear and safe distance of all on-going construction projects.
Field
officials were also ordered to ensure that legible informational and
directional signs are installed on visible locations along national roads.
Likewise, the agency facilitated the removal of any
obstruction along the
right-of-way of national roads and bridges such as vendors and illegally parked
vehicles to ensure safety of the motoring public.
