TACLOBAN
CITY, Feb. 5 (PNA) -– Liberal Party vice presidential candidate Leni Robredo is
not optimistic about the support of voters in this city, but she’s ready to woo
“resistant” voters, who are not satisfied with the administration’s
post-Yolanda performance.
Speaking to
reporters Thursday afternoon, Robredo said that it would not be easy for her
and presidential bet Mar Roxas to earn the support of majority of Tacloban
voters, but she’s hoping that they would be given an opportunity to present
their platforms in this city.
“We know
it’s hard because there is resistance, but we are here for a mission and we
will face the challenge. If there are shortcomings, we have to accept it
because we are not perfect and we commit mistakes, but we should look for
solutions,” Robredo said.
Roxas has
been criticized in this city for supposedly mismanaging relief efforts after
super typhoon Yolanda hit the city in 2013.
The widow of
late Secretary Jesse Robredo visited this city to meet students and civil
society organizations at the Leyte Normal University. The Camarines Sur solon
also went to Palo and Javier towns for a meeting with local officials and
farmers’ group.
Earlier this
week, Roberdo visited Catarman, Northern Samar; Calbayog City, Samar; and
Catbalogan City, Samar to meet local officials and attend multi-sectoral
forums.
When asked
what she would do to address water and electricity supply problems in the
city’s relocation sites, she emphasized her advocacy for less bureaucratic
process in post-disaster response.
“The budget
is there, but resettlement sites have no water and electricity for years
because the procurement process is very complicated,” she said.
During the
forum, Robredo narrated her experience during her time with Sentro ng
Alternatibong Lingap Panligal, a non-government organization that provides free
legal aid to marginalized sectors. (PNA)
