Leyte’s business school aims to produce more world class professionals

PALO, Leyte, Feb.12 (PNA) -- The Saint Paul School of Professionals Studies was officially launched Wednesday as the new name of Saint Paul School of Business and Law.

School President Erwin Vincent G. Alcala recalled from a rented space in Taboan, Tacloban city with 100 students enrolled, old facilities and equipment, the school has tremendously grown, offering more programs, and almost 4,000 students.

“The school felt the need to expand our services and coverage, thus we need to change our name with new course offerings. The new name was approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission last October 2015,” Alcala told reporters.

The choice of the new name is based on the school offering for professional programs with licensure examinations and even without licensure exams, but are qualified for certification examination with international bodies, according to Alcala.

Apart from Bachelor of Science in Accountancy as its flagship program, the school now offers business, management, law and real estate management. The school is also now ready for five classes in the senior high school.

Alcala said the school has proudly placed its graduates as professionals in industries in most part of the world like in the US, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Hongkong, Dubai and in other Asian, Western and Middle East Countries.

Some alumni, according to Alcala have “tested waters in global certification examinations with flying colors.” They are certified internal auditor global top 5, certified management accountant, certified financial consultant, registered real estate broker, and forensic certified public accountant.

In the national level, the school has more than 10 placers and 20 scorers in the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure examinations. Marwin Baldevia, and Joseph Tan Cruz made it top 1 and 2 in the 2010 and 2006 CPA board, respectively. Three others landed in the 5th, 10th and 18th rank.

To date, the school is the fifth biggest producer of CPA in the country, having produced 136 CPAs in 2015 alone.

Aside from the courses mentioned the school is also offering Accounting Technology, Management Accounting, Internal Auditing, Accounting Information Systems, Accounting Technology, Business Economics, Computer Management, Marketing Management, Operations Management and Real Estate Management (REM).

Alcala informed that their school is the first school to produce REM graduates and will be the first to take the REM licensure examination later part of February. The school was given citation from the Commission on Higher Education with the feat.

Alcala said that with its new name, the school wants to position as a world class professional learning institution imbued with Saint Paul’s ideals of giving back, living up to society’s expectations on environmentally conscious and socio-economic responsive academic instruction, development research and community service.
