Catbalogan City, Korean firm sign wind tower project dea

CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar, Feb. 15 (PNA) -- The city government here and Korean firm Odin Energy signed a contract agreement for the construction of a wind tower, one of the components of the Catbalogan Sky City Mega Project.

The project will start within six months after the signing of a deal on Monday. It has cost of USD2.4 million.

Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan represented the city government while Odin Energy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Young-mi Baek, Vice President Richard Yo Songsuk, Technical Adviser Soo Yun Song and Director Gi Sung Baek represented the Korean firm.

From the original 11-storey tower, the design was changed to 13-storey structure to cater restaurants, shops, and viewing deck for tourists.

The first two storey of the facility will be used as offices of the city government.

The Korean firm’s wind tower is the first of its kind in the country and first facility they would build outside Korea. The power that will be generated by the wind tower with solar panels will be used to energize the offices inside the structure.

As committed by the city government, construction of access road leading to the site of Catbalogan City Sky City Mega Project has already started.

The Catbalogan Sky City Mega Project, located 444 hectare upland portion of the city, is being eyed as the new site for residential and economic development.

"This means a lot for the city because the technology they are proposing really fits for Catbalogan,” she added.

Last year, Odin officials signed a memorandum of agreement with the National Power Corporation for the formalization of their investment. (PNA)
