MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, Jan. 25 (PNA) -– Liberal Party standard–bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas inaugurated the alternate port in the city situated in Guadalupe village on Sunday.

He was accompanied by Governor Roger Mercado and his brother, Rep. Damian Mercado, City Mayor Maloney Samaco and other local officials.

Roxas was the Secretary of the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) when PHP60-million funds was released for the new port. He then proceeded to city’s airport at Panan-awan village, to check the construction of the on-going expansion.

Earlier, Roxas visited the public market and had breakfast with the local officials in the carenderia, according to Governor Mercado.

It was followed by a gathering in the city gymnasium where 6,000 people attended, mostly government employees, village officials and other sectors. It was also participated by 18 mayors in the province.

In his short speech, Roxas thanked the people of Maasin for the warm welcome and support.

Mercado said the province will support the Roxas-Robredo tandem. Last November, Mar’s vice-presidential candidate Congresswoman Leni Robredo visited the city.
