PALO, Leyte, Jan. 20 (PNA) -- The Catholic Church’s Archdiocese of Palo
will distribute 2,000 copies of coffee table book featuring the historic visit
of Pope Francis in this province last year.
Palo Archbishop John Du said 2,000 copies of coffee-table book have been
produced jointly by the Heart of Francis Foundation, Aeropagus Communication
and the Archdiocese of Palo.
Du said they want to highlight the papal visit in Leyte since the coffee
table book launched in Metro Manila contains only three pages of his visit to
the province.
“The center of his visit was the victims of super typhoon Yolanda. This
(coffee table book) tells us the Pope’s visit and will tell story to the next
generation,” he said.
Pope Francis, the leader of the more than a billion Roman Catholics,
visited the Archdiocese on January 17, 2015 or more than a year after super
typhoon Yolanda ravaged Leyte province.
Despite threat of tropical storm Amang in the region, Pope Francis and
his entourage proceeded with his visit where thousands of pilgrims waited for
his arrival at the new Tacloban Airport tarmac to celebrate mass.
His visit to the Archdiocese of Palo was considered as historical by
locals being the first head of the Catholic church to visit a non-metropolitan
place.
“We should be thankful that we are alive at the time the Pope visited
us. This is once in a lifetime event that we need to share with our children,”
Du said.
The papal visit has opened the heart of many to become more generous,
caring and conscious in helping for their fellowmen who are in need specially
those that were affected by calamities, he added. (PNA)
