TACLOBAN CITY, Jan. 19 (PNA) -- A
Guam-based construction firm owner is counting on high demand for function
rooms in the city to prop up his newfound business.
For Rolando NewVillamor, Tacloban
has been a favorite place for gatherings, especially after super typhoon
Yolanda, which calls for more function rooms and accommodation facilities to
meet the promising demand.
“The market has been very
encouraging. I noticed that only 50 percent of the need for function rooms is
being met by local hotels and restaurants. There were already request for
reservations last year even if construction was still ongoing,” said
NewVillamor, the owner of KEYS Construction based in Dededo, Guam.
Last Saturday, the engineer’s
family formally opened Villa Amor, a 250-seater function hall with restobar,
20-room hotel, pool and ample parking space. It is located in a 3,600-square
meter property at Picas, Sagkahan district, this city.
NewVillamor, a native of Jaro,
Leyte has invested Php40 million through his earnings and loan from Metrobank.
“I want to invest here because I
want to help Yolanda victims who are relatives of my friends and classmates,”
he added.
His business initially hired 30
workers from Leyte. (PNA)
