Leyte towns seeks completion of 2015 unfinished business

SAN MIGUEL, Leyte, Jan. 5 (PNA) – The local government here is seeking to fast track the completion of unfinished 2015 projects within the quarter, mobilizing village officials to accomplish the task.
Mayor Cheeryl Enrica L. Esperas gathered on Tuesday all village officials and department heads of national and local offices in this town for the New Year’s meeting.
The meeting held at the municipal gymnasium, has focused on the unfinished programs last year and continuing programs intended for 21 villages. There was also a reorientation of basic functions for local officials.
“We also reminded officials on their responsibilities and that they should not be affected by activities related to the 2016 elections,” Esperas added.
She also appealed to village officials not to get side tracked by politics since “elections is just a one day affair and their responsibilities to constituents is a day-to-day affair.”
Local officials are mandated to formulate their local development plan and prepare annual executive and supplemental budget.
The joint meeting aimed to harmonize the efforts of the municipal and village government since the latter needs the support of the former to frame community-based plans.
On the same day, the provincial government of Leyte through Governor Dominic Petilla distributed Php 15,000 cash to each of the 21 villages in this town as financial assistance.

Esperas reminded village officials that the funds are still subject to commission on audit (COA) rules and regulations. (PNA)
