CARIGARA, Leyte,
Jan. 26 (PNA) -- The local government here will continue implementing programs
for the poor even during election period.
Carigara Mayor
Eduardo C. Ong said they have to work to sustain their initiatives even after
receiving the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) from the Department of the
Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The local
government has scheduled a medical mission and feeding program this month as
part of the town's 445th founding anniversary.
“Personnel from
Municipal Health Office with doctors and nurses will also visit far-flung
villages to serve people with poor access to health facilities,” Ong said.
The Department of
Health, provincial government, and municipal government have provided free
medicines.
For agriculture,
almost one week of the two-week celebration for the town’s founding anniversary
was dedicated to farmers and fishermen.
At least 800 sacks
of fertilizers have been provided to farmers with the support of Food and
Agriculture Organization (FAO).
“For livelihood
project, we consult people in the community as to what kind of livelihood
assistance that is suitable to their needs,” the mayor said.
“What we do is to
give the best service we can give. The best award that we can get is to see
people happy and contented,” he added.
Last year, the
local government has met all the criteria of the core components of the SGLG -
good financial housekeeping, social protection, and disaster preparedness.
The town also met
two of the three essential components of the seal - business-friendliness,
competitiveness and peace and order.
