TACLOBAN CITY, Jan. 21 (PNA) --
The regional capital and nearby towns will suffer a 12-hour power shutdown on
Sunday due to ongoing upgrading project of the National Grid Corporation of the
Philippines (NGCP).
The NGCP will cut power in
Tacloban and nearby towns of Palo and Babatngon from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.,
according to its advisory sent to the media Wednesday afternoon.
“This is to facilitate
configuration and synchronization works on new and old power transformers at
Babatngon substation,” the NGCP stated.
The power transmission firm is
adding up two new 50 MVA (Mega Volt Amp) transformers as part of their
nationwide expansion, which includes the new Ormoc-Babatngon 138 kV (kilovolts)
line.
Tacloban and nearby areas is under
the Leyte II Electric Cooperative with 54,411 power consumers as of mid-2015.
