DPWH Southern Leyte steps up preparation for 2017 projects

MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, Sept. 27 (PNA) – The Department of Public Works and Highways Southern Leyte District Engineering Office (DPWH-SLDEO) is more than halfway in its preparation for projects to be implemented next year as the it braces for higher infrastructure spending.

Pre-detailed engineering activities are now 75 percent done while bidding process will kick off in October, according to District Engineer Ma. Margarita C. Junia.

Detailed engineering activities covered the setting of design standards, conduct of field surveys and investigations, preparation of design plans and design report, preparation of contract plans, determination of contract packages.

Included in the preparation are technical specifications, quantity estimates, cost estimates and approved budget for the contract,

Under the proposed 2017 infrastructure projects based on the National Expenditure Program, the district office is tasked to implement PHP1.74 billion worth of projects, higher than this year’s PHP1.3 billion outlay.

“The target is that by the end of September, all the program of works are ready. We are just waiting for a go signal to proceed with the bidding,” Junia said.

Among the major projects lined up for next year are the upgrading of roads leading to various tourist destinations in Maasin City and Liloan-San Ricardo Circumferential Road.

The district office is closely coordinating with the office of Southern Leyte lone district Representative Roger Mercado to identify projects in line with the national government and local government’s thrusts. (PNA)
