Northern Samar to hold anti-drugs summit

TACLOBAN CITY, Aug. 4 (PNA) -- The Northern Samar provincial government will conduct an anti-illegal drugs summit on August 25 at the University of Eastern Philippines in Catarman, Northern Samar.

Rei Josiah Echano, provincial information officer said the purpose of the activity is to strengthen their campaign against illegal drugs through unification and workshop on sectoral resolutions.

The summit will gather about 3,400 participants from the academe, church, local government units and non-government organization. Also joining are hundreds drug personalities who earlier surrendered to the police.

Among the resources persons are representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The main topic in the summit is the rehabilitation of the more than 850 drug personalities who have surrendered to local authorities as of end of July.
