Catholic Foundation builds homes for poor farmers

ORMOC CITY, Leyte, Feb. 29 (PNA) – The Catholic Foundation Answering the Cry of the Poor (Ancop) turned over to beneficiaries 15 housing units in a remote village here on February 25.

The site is within the 46-hectare plantation of Fran Farms Corp. in Sitio Fatima, Matica-a village, 17 kilometers north of downtown.

The Fran family offered a two-hectare site for usufruct where Ancop can build 80 housing units based on its site development plan. Construction of the first 15 units was made possible with funding from International Maritime Services of Japan. Each unit measures 22 sq.m.

Another 10 units will be built beginning first week of March by Caritas Humanitarian Aid and Relief Initiatives of Singapore while Ancop Australia is expected to build 40 more units, according to the foundation’s administrative and operations assistant Jojo Sumalinog.

Mayor Edward C. Codilla was invited to grace the ceremony in recognition of the local government unit’s (LGU) contribution of concreting 300 meters of the village road. He further committed to mobilize the LGU’s earthmoving equipment for the site development. (PNA)
