TACLOBAN
CITY, Jan. 26 (PNA) -- Liberal Party senatorial bet Risa Hontiveros does not
see a need to double her campaigning efforts in Tacloban City because of her
association with ruling party’s standard bearer Mar Roxas.
“If I have
to double my efforts, it would be all over the country not only in Tacloban,”
said Hontiveros during her visit to this city on Sunday.
Hontiveros
is happy to hear that Roxas visited Tacloban and was warmly welcomed by people
in the public market, which is a proof that Liberal Party bets have the support
of Tacloban voters.
The former
solon appreciated Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez for acknowledging the support of
the national government in the rehabilitation efforts of the city.
Critics in
this typhoon-hit city have threatened not to vote Liberal Party candidates for
failure of the national government to respond to emergencies in the aftermath
of the super typhoon in 2013.
Roxas led
the post-Yolanda rehabilitation efforts as chief of the Department of the
Interior and Local Government.
This is
Hontiveros’ third attempt to win a Senate seat. In recent surveys she figured
between number 11 and 12. “I’m hoping to be in the higher slot at number 8 or 9
to be safe,” she told reporters.
“However, it
doesn’t mean that I have to be complacent just because my name figures in
surveys. I still have to work hard,” she added.
Hontiveros
vowed to advocate for a universal health care system in the country. (PNA)
